Aztec Feather Shield
- Covered and decorated with feathers/feather tassels
- Fringe around circumference of circular shield
- Mysterious blue figure stands out in red background, thought to be a coyote, which was a patron of elite Aztec warriors
- The “coyote” is also thought to be the Aztec water monster known as Ahuitzotl
- If so, the shield could have belonged to a ruler and warrior of the same name
- Shows what the Aztecs used to build things (feathers, etc.)
- Shows what the Aztecs value (the “coyote”/mysterious figure) - deities
- Shield has been excavated and is being preserved
